Kicks for Kids

POSTED ON - by  /  3 Comments »

During our “Free Shoes” contest, we were made aware of the great need for running shoes for youth in our local area. We are starting a Kicks for Kids fund drive to help address this need. For every $25 donated, Sole 2 Soul will give a pair of high quality runnng shoes to a local child (Central Valley). Our goal is to provide 250 pairs. The kids identified are all involved in running programs and range in age from Jr. High to High School. Please help us make this a successful effort. Donations will be accepted until November 26th and any amount will be appreciated. Shoes will be provided the first week of December and we will share the stories and pictures on Facebook and in our next newsletter.

Feel free to email if you have any questions.

Thank you!!

Getting Started

Tips for the begginer runner.T

Take these simple steps to get started and make progress.
What is your running goal? If you are a new runner or returning to running after a long layoff then your primary goal should be to establish a consistent training pattern.  Always start slowly so you don’t end up discouraged by over doing it and becoming too sore or even injured. Here is some information that will help you  get started safely and having fun running regularly.

Getting Started
Start slowly and first build up to walking continuously for 30 minutes if you have not ran in the last six months. Then add running for 10 to 20 seconds every minute, walking the balance, for a total of 30 minutes. Run every other day, gradually adding five to 10 seconds to your run time.

It is common to have some muscle soreness in the beginning but not excessively. But there’s no need to feel pain, especially if you start with short, slow periods of running, take plenty of walk breaks, and gradually increase your run time.

Short on Time
If you are limited on time even a 10- to 15-minute run has benefits. It will also help you remain consistent, boost your mood and improve your fitness.

Signs of Improved Fitness
You will soon notice fitness results. You’ll notice that you will not be breathing as hard and your pace increasing. With regular running you will want to go faster and farther. Don’t be afraid to have some fun by entering a race. Races can often serve as motivation to keep you on the right track.

Nathan 020 Hydration Pack Review

Nathan Hydration PackI have now logged over 500 miles with my Nathan 020 hydration pack. So why do I love it so much? To be honest I didn’t realize how great is was until I started testing so many of the others. In selecting a pack for an upcoming race I logged miles with nine different packs and in the end I chose to stick with my original choice.  I could not even come up with a pack that was a close 2nd to this one.

Why love this pack:

  • Easy to fill hydration bladder
  • Comfortable fit that can be adjusted
  • Front right-hand pocket can hold a water bottle
  • The material on the chest straps are breathable
  • Two pockets on the pack; one large one and a small one that includes a key clip
  • Bungee cord on the back where I can quickly store a jacket
  • A female specific model is also available

Stop by and try this pack on. You will see that it sits high on the back which seems strange at first. After you run with it you will realize this is the key to avoiding the “bounce” without having a waist belt. Hope you love it as much as I do.
